| Figure SSA-ind-034. Nagaraja Erapata (Elapattra) depicted in three different instances: (1) as the anthropomorphic naga sporting the pentacephalic cobra hood above his turban and worshipping the Empty Throne (?) and garlanded sacred (Bodhi?) tree (possibly the symbolic (aniconic) representations of the Buddha Shakyamuni?); (2) as half-submerged into the body of water (pond, lake, river?) the anthropomorphic naga accompanied by two naginis (wife and daughter?), sporting the pentacephalic or monocephalic cobra hoods above their turbans in the general attitude of respect and veneration; (3) as the pentacephalic rearing naga hooded cobra emerging from the body of water with his daughter standing atop gesticulating toward her potential bridegroom. |
