Two frontal tricephalic rearing naga hooded cobras with long tails flanking the triratna, symbolically representing the Three Jewels of Buddhism (the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha) and constituting the upper decorative register of the entrance arch (ogee-shaped gavaksha ("bull/cow's eye") or chandrashala ("moon abode")); the group of devotees worshipping the garlanded sacred (Bodhi?) tree (possibly the symbolic (aniconic) representation of the Buddha Shakyamuni?). |
