Set III-2-abr-001. In Gnostic mythology, e.g. among the Basilidians (c. 100-400 AD), the word Abrasax (ΑΒΡΑΞΑΣ) was associated with the "Great Archon", the builder of the physical universe. Numerologically, the letters of Abrasax' name add up to 365, the amount of days in a solar year. Iconographically, Abrasax was associated with the alectorocephalic (rooster-headed) and ophiopode (serpent-legged) composite deity, usually holding a whip and a shield. The word Iao (ΙΑΩ) derived from the name of the Hebrew god YHWH.
