Figure WCA-isr-076. Alexei Alexeev and the sculptural image of the Virgin Mary as Nova Eva, crushing a serpent's head under her right foot. The concept of "New Eve" was developed in the Early Christian tradition by Papias of Hierapolis (70-163 AD), Justin Martyr (100-165 AD), Irenaeus of Lyons (130-202 AD), Tertullian (155-240 AD), Ephrem the Syrian (306-373 AD), and Augustine of Hippo (354-430 AD). The epithet of Virgin Mary as "The Conqueror of Dragons" was coined by Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153 AD).
