Alexei Alexeev and the direction sign to the Serpent Path [שביל הנחש], leading to the Masada Fortress from the east and described by Flavius Josephus (37-100 AD) in his Jewish War as follows: ⦿ "⟨...⟩ the one of these ways is called the Serpent [ὄφις, ophis = "snake/serpent" in Greek], as resembling that animal in its narrowness and its perpetual windings." (Book VII: 8, 281).
