Figure EUR-ita-083. Swirling snake entwining a quiver, filled with arrows and decorated with the image of gorgoneion (the severed head of Gorgon Medusa) among the military paraphernalia, including bow, shield, and a crested helmet, decorated with the image of Triton, the ichthyocaude (fish-tailed) aquatic creature and a swirling snake (?). The Villa del Priorato di Malta (Magistral Villa) is best known for a small keyhole (Il Buco Della Serratura) in the central entrance gate door, through which the dome of the Basilica Papale di San Pietro in Vaticano (Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican) can be viewed at the end of a garden allée framed in clipped cypresses.
