A battle scene from the Gigantomachia: helmeted goddess of wisdom, creativity, craft, weaving, poetry, medicine, commerce, diplomacy, and just war Athena in the Promachos (Fighting in the Front Line) aspect, wearing torso-aegis with snakes-fringe, carrying the aspis (hoplon?) shield with the image of gorgoneion (the severed head of Gorgon Medusa), brandishing spear and fighting against winged, ophiopode (serpent-legged) giant (Pallas, Asterius, or Enceladus?) with his swirling squamous (scaly) lower limbs (below the knees) terminating with the heads of serpents. |
