Giant golden turtle Rubal appearing from the waters of the primeval ocean and carrying on its plastron the astrological diagram inscribed by Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom: the mewa nine coloured islands or magic squares (sme ba in Tibetan, luo shu in Chinese) and lotus petals with eight trigrams (spar kha in Tibetan, bagua in Chinese) surrounded by twelve animals of the zodiac, including dragon (brug in Tibetan, long in Chinese) and snake (sbrul in Tibetan, she in Chinese). |
