Winged gorgoneion (the severed head of Gorgon Medusa) with two addorsed serpent's heads above the forehead and tails intertwining below the chin to form the Herakleotikon hamma (Hercules, square, or reef knot), serving as an apotropaic device, placed in the centre of the scaly cuirass of the Roman Emperor Trajan (r. 98-117 AD). |
